Ring in the Year of the Dragon with Pacific Asia Museum's second annual Lunar New Year Festival! Enjoy performances, crafts, demonstrations and more in our courtyard, auditorium and a fully tented parking lot. Visiting artists from Jiangsu province, China, will also be present giving demonstrations and performances. Food and drink available from several food trucks including the Nom Nom Truck, the Boba Truck, and Paradise Cookies.

Celebrate Chinese New Year with visiting artists from Jiangsu Province! Demonstrations of traditional crafts daily from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm (3:00 pm on Wednesday), plus performances by the Yangzhou Puppet Troupe at 3:30 pm on Thursday and Friday.

OPENING January 19, 2012

Breaking Ground: Chinese American Architects in Los Angeles (1945-1980) will showcase the architectural achievements of four pioneering Chinese American architects whose contributions were critical to the development of Los Angeles' urban and visual landscape between 1945 and 1980. The exhibit will focus on the lives and work of Eugene K. Choy, Gilbert Leong, Helen Liu Fong, and Gin Wong, architects who played pivotal roles in the development of Mid-Century Modern and Googie Architecture movements unique to California's Post-War architectural renaissance.

Breaking Ground is part of Pacific Standard Time. This unprecedented collaboration, initiated by the Getty Foundation, brings together more than sixty cultural institutions from across Southern California for six months beginning October 2011 to tell the story of the birth of the L.A. art scene. Pacific Standard Time is an initiative of the Getty. The presenting sponsor is Bank of America.

  Chinatown Welcomes Year of the Dragon With Midnight Temple Ceremony

Chinatown community gathers to welcome good health, prosperity, and harmony for the “Year of the Dragon.” Thousands will gather at a local temple to make offerings to the deities, set off firecrackers to awaken the spirits, and burn incense to usher in good fortune for the new year. Participants includes lion dancers, Buddhist and Taoist monks, the heads of family associations, and many others from the Southern California Chinese community. This tradition takes place on the eve of Chinese New Year’s Day (1/23/12) and is typically followed by several days of return visits to the temple for blessings and public celebrations.

The 113th Golden Dragon Parade will take place on Saturday from 1pm-4pm along Broadway and Hill Streets.

Get ready for one of the largest Chinese New Year celebrations in the country as Los Angeles Chinatown kicks off the Year of the Dragon in a big way. The weekend of January 28 & 29, 2012 will be full of fun activities for all ages beginning with the 113th Annual Golden Dragon Parade on Saturday, Jan. 28th. Enjoy hundreds of spectacular floats, decked out cars, dancers and bands as they parade down the heart of Chinatown. The Lunar New Year Festival commences after the parade with cultural performances by some of the nation's best Chinese acts. Enjoy one or several cultural workshops and sample the many gourmet food trucks at the event. Wildly popular Cupcake Wars will be on hand with 1000 Chinese New Year themed cupcakes for attendees to enjoy. The Chinese New Year Festival is free and open to all ages.
